School Year of 2012

    School Year of 2012

    Chang, Yao-Jen

Teacher Change, Yao-Jen of Department of Electronic Engineering was selected as the excellent service learning teacher for the second time this year. He recalls that he was contracted by National Science Council to engage in the project for assistive technology research five years ago by accident; since then, he started to participate in the non-profit-seeking organizations for the mentally and physically disordered. After that, it looks like that another life was opened for the students, and especially himself. He thought that his life should consist of teaching, research, papers, summer and winter vacation, and he felt that he would never secure sufficient sense of security. Notwithstanding, since he participated in the project, he has sound knowledge of non-profit-seeking organizations and received the brand new experience and feeling about the life after communicating with the physically and mentally disordered and, therefore, saw the new possibility and meaning of one’s life.Teacher Chang has instructed his students to form the service learning group for six years consecutively. Oriented toward the service to people with cognitive impairments, the group has won 1st place of the Holistic Caring Award for the category of IT and 1st place of the Presentation Contest throughout CYCU successively. The group has also won 1st place and 2nd place of the InnoServe Awards in the past years, and attended the ACM international competition for five years consecutively, and won the award each time. In the process of helping the disadvantaged groups by profession and technology, teachers and students received the precious experience in learning how to contribute and care the society.

    Chin, Tsung-Chun

Since the school year of 2008, Teacher Chin has integrated the subject, “counseling service for new immigrants’ children”, into the economy of East Asia and Asia-Pacific economic organization courses, in order to enable the students to construct their ability to judge and think the economic development in East Asia, develop their interest in cultures and customs of East Asia, and upgrade their global view in the process of interacting with the new sons of Taiwan. Meanwhile, by implementing the service learning, the students may train their humane care and fulfill CYCU's holistic education spirit. In the past four years, Teacher Chin and students of the Department of International Business have provided services to Bai-Ji Elementary School of Daxi, Si-Wei Elementary School of Yangmei, SOS Children’s Villages, Zhongli Taoyuan Chung-Ping Elementary School and Nei-Ding Elementary School, and Taoyuan Municipal Happy Elementary School to provide the new immigrants’ children and high-concerned children with such services as tutoring, life education, group activities and daily life counseling and, therefore, won recognition from parents and praise from CYCU. Also, CYCU entered into the strategic alliance with Taoyuan County Service Station of National Immigration Agency in 2011 to boost the various services available to new immigrants and their children jointly. CYCU students’ care and tutoring warm the heart of all new sons of Taiwan, and make the other students of CYCU moved and grow.

    Liu, Hung-Huan

Since Teacher Liu, Hung-Huan of Department of Electronic Engineering participated in the interdisciplinary integrated research plan of National Science Council investigated by Teacher Chang, Yao-Jen of Department of Electronic Engineering in 2006, he has started his research in assistive technology device and led students to participate in the non-profit-seeking organizations for the physically and mentally disabled until now. In the process of the service, our role was transformed from the service provider to the service recipient. The students and teachers all learned how to deal with their life, recognize their own value and inspire each other with the teamwork from the physically and mentally disordered and volunteer group. Teacher Liu has been dedicated to developing various professional assistive technology devices applicable to the physically and mentally disordered by means of low-price smart phone. He taught Android app design and development in the mobile network application service courses organized by Department of Electronic Engineering and also encouraged students to design apps that are helpful for the physically and mentally disabled. The group instructed by him has won 1st place of the Holistic Caring Award for the category of IT and 2nd place of the Presentation Contest throughout CYCU. The students instructed by him also attended the ACM international competition and won 3rd place in the world.
