WU, CHAO-MING
Department of Information Management
Since 2001, I served as the chair of the Department of Information Management, I have trained students to devote themselves to service learning with their expertise in IT, and traveled with the student team, domestically and overseas, for almost 20 years. Among other things in 2004, we hit the sales record via online marketing for the juicy peach farmers of Lala Mountain, and also assisted with tourism marketing for the R’uyan Tribe in Wufong Township, Hsinchu. In 2006, we built the “AIDS e-Medical Record System” in Malawi, Africa. In 2007, we engaged in the IT teaching and construction of network environment for the rural tribes living in the Thai-Burmese Border, Cambodia and North India, as well as for local non-profit-seeking organizations.
I was transferred from the public sector to CYCU three years ago. At the very beginning, I instructed the freshmen to engage in merchandising and digital marketing for the public welfare groups via my “Introduction to Business” course. During the summer vacation of 2019, I established the “Philippines International Volunteer Group in IT Education,” and headed for Mindanao together with 10 students from the Department of Information Management to fulfill the international IT volunteer service provided by Taiwanese youth locally for the first time and complete the construction of Taiwan digital opportunity center locally.
I always tell students to “bring happiness to others with your expertise and professionalism.” Through contribution to the service at the site physically, the students can be trained to show empathy to others and also integrate what they learn from the class into their career. I hope that each student can learn contribution and growth from “Love” in addition to their majors, when they are studying at the school. This is exactly what CYCU’s educational philosophy clarifies; “Education is dominated by love!”
