CYCU Overseas Service-Learning Provide Service in Cambodia and Show Taiwan’s Love

CYCU Service-Learning Center stated on 23rd day that it would organize the overseas Service-Learning results joint presentation ceremony for “Young World but Different Vision”. A total of 300 teachers and students from CYCU and other universities and senior high school students attended the ceremony to listen to the university students’ experience and achievement in Service-Learning. All of them realized that the university students’ passion for services made the world see Taiwan!

CYCU Service-Learning Center indicated that its five student groups headed for Cambodia, Myanmar, Salvador, Thailand and Mainland China to engage in oversea service this summer vacation. The students practiced their professional knowledge and engaged in the “hand in hand and Service-Learning” with the local youth, minorities, rural area children, young girls who lost their parents and young single mothers to demonstrate CYCU’s philosophy about holistic education focused on care for the society and show Taiwanese youth’s passion and kindness to the world!

CYCU volunteers have provided services in Siem Reap, Cambodia for 11th times this year. In order to help Puok County, which had poor resources, create the “New “Cambodia” English Teaching”, the students invited the local youth teachers to work on the seeds workshop. Their diversified and interesting teaching activities reflected the spirit about “the local people helping the other local people”.

The “Tiptoe Love in Myanmar” group consisting of the students from Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Department of Accounting and Department of International Business has engaged in providing service in Myanmar for the third year. This year, they worked with the local Chinese school students to organize the “Hand in Hand Service-Learning”. The youth of Taiwan and Myanmar worked together to plan the English activities to care the orphanage established by the local minority, Lisu Tribe. At the end of the service activities, the local Chinese school students took initiative to organize their own volunteer group immediately to serve the orphanage periodically and continue spreading the effect of care extended by CYCU.

Meanwhile, CYCU has continued to provide overseas service in Salvador for the second year. The “Roaming Thailand-Thailand Overseas Volunteer Group” instructed by Teacher Liao Hsiu-Li of Department of Information Management has headed for Thailand for the fourth time. The “Taiwan Summer Camp” was co-organized by the students of CYCU Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Department of Applied Linguistics and Language Studies, Department of Special Education and Department of Bioscience Technology, and National Taiwan University of Sport in the schools of Taiwanese businessmen’s children in Dongguan to help them experience cultures.
