CYCU Receive Honors for Promotion of Overseas Volunteer

CYCU teachers and students executed public welfare projects and overseas volunteer services domestically/overseas, and won a gold prize and two bronze prizes at “Youth Overseas Peace Volunteer Group Sharing & Presentation Ceremony” organized by Ministry of Education and received a total of 3 honors for the Outstanding Volunteer Award by group/individual by Taoyuan City Government. CYCU has also won the major awards from Ministry of Education and as the excellent Service-Learning school, excellent course teaching plan, excellent teachers and excellent administrative staff. All of these reflect the abundant results received by it after promoting the Service-Learning and upholding the University’s social responsibility permanently.

CYCU has promoted the Service-Learning since 2006. It encourages students to participate in the overseas service to develop their global views. CYCU Cambodia overseas volunteer group which won the golden prize for the youth overseas peace volunteer group inherited the senior’s service experience for 8 years, trained the village youth teachers via the “Village Seed English Teacher Workshop”. Meanwhile, Myanmar overseas volunteer group and Salvador overseas volunteer group also won the bronze prize both this year.

The “Creative Service with Care Design” team, which won 3rd place of the Outstanding Volunteer Award, was led by Teacher Chen Li-Yu and Teacher Lin Wen-Chi of Department of Interior Design. The team has constructed the hope classroom in Qehuy Tribe, Fuxin District, Taoyuan and assisted Carpenter’s House in Zhongli District in building the community public welfare coffee shop, reconstructing the environment of LOHAS Preschool, and improving the access-free environment of Ai Jia Development Center successively since 2010. The team even helped the aboriginal elementary school in Fengbin Township, Hualien County produce lockers with the recycled materials from the graduation exhibition once.

CYCU said that it is used to encouraging its students to care the society with their professional knowledge. So far it has organized 447 professional Service-Learning courses for departments/graduated schools. More than 20,000 teachers and students participated in the Service-Learning physically and practiced the University’s social responsibility to extend the positive energy from more young people from schools to the society and from Taiwan to the world.
