Guide Map of Mascot With Different Styles, “Sky” Tourism(Author: Lee Wan-Chen) News: In order to help promote the local tourism, CYCU Department of Commercial Design master program students, as instructed by Professor Huang Wen-Tsung, practiced their creative ideas and profession in design as young men and designed the cultural and creative tourism map and tabletop games integrating local cultural and sense of design concerning such scenic spots as the “sky walk”, Baguashan and Changhua Railway Station in Changhua County. Even the Director-General of the Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau, Chen Wen-Pin, gave a “like” to them!

Professor Huang Wen-Tsung of CYCU Department of Commercial Design stated that the “Contemporary Design Trend” was supposed to introduce the works made by designers from various countries; however, according to the philosophy about “design must combine practice”, since four years ago, he has led his students to try to work with different communities or commercial areas, conduct the field survey and site visit, and enable the students to practice what they learned from the class in their creative development. Teacher Huang indicated that “In addition to design and practice, to have the students’ works reviewed and commented by the owner and practices is also an important cycle of the master program!”

With the support from Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau and County Council, the students have practiced their profession in design successively. The student, Li Wan-Chen, designed two cute mascots for the “Sky Walk” of Baguashan, “Sky” and “Rainbow”. The “Sky” is portrayed as the squirrel commonly seen locally wearing the sky walk as its necklace. “Rainbow” is its follower. According to Li Wan-Chen, the mascots cannot only be applied to the tourist guide but also to the development of cultural and creative products.

The student, Ho Jui-Ka, personalized the historical ancient temple in Changhua, “Yuan Ching Kuan”, as the mild and kind “Sister Qing”. Ho Jui-Ka said that “I like the solemn and fresh atmosphere here; therefore, I conceive the work based on the topic “Qing”, hoping that Sister Qing could drive the local tourism economic development.”

The student, Tsui Ping, designed multiple cultural and creative postcards, guide maps and chops with respect to the areas at Siaoxi Street around Changhau Railway Station, hoping that the old street may develop a new life. The student, Li Chiang-Ni, re-adapted the most popular tabletop game, “Carcassonne”, to integrate the famous scenic spots in Changhua and make the game combine tourism.

Teacher Huang Wen-Tsung said in the past four years, this CYCU course has been promoting Jiaosi of Yilan, Yulan Park of Datong Township, Shifen Station of New Taipei City, and the old Bo’ ai commercial area of Taoyuan City, and this year, it was promoting the local cultural & creative products and tourism in Changhua. Many of the excellent results presented by the course in the past years have been released and distributed as products on the market. Dean of CYCU’s College of Design, Chen Chi-Peng, said that CYCU owned abundant design power, and hoped to work with Taoyuan City Government to promote the local tourism and develop Taoyuan as a better and more cultural and creative city in the future!
