Shuang Lian Elementary School situated in Zhuolan Township, Miaoli County, worked with the colleges/universities to market the local pears and built the “Shuang Lian Pear” brand successfully. The earnings gained therefrom also helped 6 graduate students to take their study tour in Philippines for two weeks this year to make their dream for study tour come true.
With the earnings from “Shuang Lian Pear”, Shuang Lian Elementary School scheduled to lead 6 graduate students to take their study tour for two weeks in Cebu, Philippines on 25th day. Hsu Yao-Chang recognized the School’s creative education and encouraged the students to strengthen their foreign language proficiency, develop their global views and become the country’s future.
Shuang Lian Elementary School worked with Professor Chen Yi-Heng of National Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Li Yun-Ping of Department of Public Administration and Management of National University of Tainan, and Professor Li Ming-Yen of CYCU Department of Business Management to plan the “Pear Homeland. See Shuang Lian” plan and successfully build the exclusive brand for the and pear planted by Shuang Lian Community, “Shuan Lian Pear”. 30% of the earnings gained from the pear, about NT$220,000, were fed back to the School.
Around August of last year when the Principal of Shuang Lian Elementary School, Shen Yi-Cheng, held the position, he also invited his relatives and good friends to purchase pear from the farmers to replace potted flowers or plagues for celebrating his new post. As a result, he raised about NT$700,000 for marketing the fruit and earned NT$120,000 as the school fund.
In May this year, cabbage of Shuang Lian Community became unsalable. The School practiced its creative idea to change the cabbage into kimchi to help farmers solve the trouble. Meanwhile, the School instructed students to market the kimchi online. The Plan solved the problem about 7,000 pieces of cabbage and also sold out 1,000 cans of kimchi and, of course, the School fund increased again.
According to the School, the rural area had limited resources. The Plan raised some budget for the School, which may be spent in developing experimental and innovative educational courses and upgrading students’ foreign language proficiency and developing their global views. His creative marketing model created a win-win situation for the School and Community.
Hsu Yao-Chang recognized the creative education adopted by Shuang Lian Elementary School, as it was proven that the rural area elementary school may provide successful education. He said that the harvest season of Shuang Lian Pear is coming in following July, and called on each one to buy Shuang Lian Pear to raise the fund for the School, support the sustainable development of creative and study tour. Meanwhile, the cooperation between school and community and the university may activate the community’s industry, develop local characteristics and attract young people to return to their hometown to renovate the village.
