Volunteers Got Their “Discharge Order” for Land Art Festival

[Epoch Times news on September 19, 2014]

(Reported by Epoch Times Reporter Hsu Nai-Yi in Taoyuan) Taoyuan Land Art Festival was held at Taoyuan Naval Base. The Base was subordinated to the army initially and once the base of the “Black Cat Squadron”. The organizer designed the volunteers’ tour guide service certificate as the “discharge order for Black Cat Squadron”. As a result, the male volunteer students may “be decommissioned earlier”, and the female volunteer students may receive their own “discharge order”.

Chang Ya-Ching of CYCU Department of Information Management and Chung Ching-Lun of CYCU Department of Physics accepted the “Discharge Order for Youth Tour Guide Volunteer” awarded by the organizer, Taoyuan County Government, on behalf of the volunteer students. The Taoyuan Land Art Festival, which persisted for 11 days, was attended by 2,460,000 visitors. The volunteer students worked very hard to guide the tour for the public at the “Black Cat Squadron” Base in the sun.

Chang Ya-Ching accepted the discharge order and said happily that few girls could receive the discharge order and this would be an unforgettable memory for her. She said that it was very meaningless for her to spend time in contributing, serving people and feeding back to the society in summer vacation before she became a senior student about to graduate from the school; meanwhile, she found happiness in the volunteer service and it was “the best gift of learning for her before graduation”! Wu Chia-Hao, a CYCU volunteer student, revealed that the tour guide was an interesting work for him, because he could communicate the intent of an artist’s design to the visitors verbally as the bridge between the artist and public; any encouragement and recognition from the public could urge him to make progress and grow.

CYCU Learning Service Center recruited a total of 87 volunteers to help operate the activities this year, including 21 university students, 8 senior high school students and 3 public figures. The volunteers must accept the educational training for 8 hours, including the introduction to background of venue, tour guider’s skills, lively body language, and background of artist and creation of arts, in order to secure the professional service quality.

CYCU upholds the philosophy about holistic education when training its students, in order to upgrade the quality of courses and also the students’ character education. It teaches the university students to feed back to the society with what they learned and by providing services, in order to found the perfect form of education on social participation.
