Service-Learning Center

Introduction to Service-Learning Center

Chung Yuan Christian University is founded on the spirit of Christian love for the world. With faith, hope, and love, we endeavor to promote higher education. In order to encourage teachers and students to care the society with “Love and Profession” and enable the students to demonstrate “Knowledge-action Integration” in the process of “Learning by Doing”, the University set up the “Office of Service-Learning Project” in March 2007, which was renamed to the “Service-Learning Center” in March 2008” dedicated to promoting the “Service-Learning” courses and projects systematically and continuously, and also recommending the University’s students to participate social services, fulfill civic responsibility and train their core competency for employment.

Difference between “Service-Learning” and “volunteer”

The difference between Service-Learning and volunteer resides in the “introspection” element added into the “Service-Learning”.  By stages of “preparation”, “service”, “introspection” and “celebration/sustainability”, the effect and correlation between service providers and service recipients will be reviewed systematically, and the future objectives and actions will be developed based on the introspection. Meanwhile, “Service-Learning” may train the students’ multidisciplinary competency and diversified thoughts and upgrade the students’ key competency for employment effectively.
