This course brought students into community settings to conduct environmental surveys, resource mapping, and cultural exchange interviews. Through environmental analysis, spatial investigations, and interview documentation at various sites, students developed a comprehensive understanding of the landscape’s features, stories, and connections.

Social Design and Placemaking / Community Empowerment and Citizen Participation

- Service Recipients: Coffee farmers in Meishan Township, Chiayi County; Xiangyi Creative; Longyuan Temple in Longtan District; Zhong Zhaozheng Literary Park
- Course Description:
This course immersed students in the coffee-producing region of Meishan Township, Chiayi County, through the “Taste Chiayi Coffee” initiative. Students had the opportunity to participate in projects, proposing specific style and business strategy themes for businesses near the Meishan coffee estates. The course integrated landscape planning and design expertise, offering actionable insights for community development to residents around Zhong Zhaozheng Literary Park and the Longyuan Temple commercial area. Additionally, students gained hands-on experience by organizing exhibitions at Longyuan Temple.


Landscape Architecture Design

- Course Description:
This course encouraged teamwork to observe and analyze the environment, enabling students to gain an understanding and judgment of environmental elements. By applying and integrating these elements, students created landscapes that balanced aesthetics and functionality, fostering an appreciation for perceivable environmental beauty.

Environment Fieldwork

- Course Description:
This course integrates students’ expertise in landscape planning and design with ecological environments, agricultural experiences, and local culture. In addition to hands-on environmental maintenance, students learn how to create sustainable natural environments that benefit the entire ecosystem’s cycle.

Design Study on Sustainable Built Environment
Instructor: Hsu Yi-Pei
Service Recipients: Elderly residents of Wukuai Village, Yuanchang Township, Yunlin County
Course Description:
Based on the Nature-based Solutions (NbS) theory learned in class, this course guides students in proposing sustainable environmental design strategies. Students systematically analyze the activity needs and living environments of the elderly, learning how to develop customized improvement plans and test their effectiveness in real-world settings. The final design outcomes are shared with the Wukuai Village community. Through hands-on participation and professional expertise, students contribute to enhancing the sustainability and livability of the community while promoting the creation of an elderly-friendly environment.
