(Evaluation on Service Programs)

The “service learning” aims to promote the courses combining “service” and “learning”.  By upholding the experiential education as the main scheme, we communicate the importance of combination of “profession”, “service” and “learning” through scheduled community service programs to boost the reciprocal development of the school, students and communities.

Objectives of Plan

The “community development” consists of such important topics as fulfillment of life quality, local identity and social relationship, which is identified as the concrete practice of life, and also a life attitude and value. The “public participation” is an important approach to practice democratic life and a required procedure to fulfill the community development.

Objectives of Courses

The courses are intended to explore the nature of community development in terms of three factors about the “sustainable thinking” including environment, economy and society, and also verify the contents of community development based on actual cases. The relevant operations hope that the students may target the communities around the school or of the importance for discussion, in order to know the meaning of community development and public participation through physical experience and interaction.

Total course hours:　36　hours

Students’ actual service hours:　40　hours

Number of student teams: a total of 2 teams, consisting of 45 persons.

Total number of service recipients: 4287 persons (number of service recipients*number of frequency).

(1)  Train the students’ professional ability to deal with community plans.

(2)  Establish the students’ awareness that they shall adhere to the down-to-earth spirit when dealing with the community environment.

(4)  Help the Department of Landscape Architecture accumulate the experience in professional service learning and practice the same in the real community.

Rating criteria

20% for attendance to class, 50% for participation in discussion, and 30% for sharing of experience.
