Recitals

(Evaluation on Service Programs)

Teach the students to design English picture books and provide the English learning service at such public welfare or community groups as Chensenmei Sanatorium, Chung-Yuan Elementary School and Chungli Library to lead the students to integrate what they have learned into the community service.

Objectives of Plan

The courses are intended to practice English education and, therefore, integrate the “service learning” to provide students with the chances to practice what they learned for teaching and learning going hand in hand. Meanwhile, the courses encourage the students to provide services to children, low-income family children, Taiwanese new immigrants’ children and the physically and mentally disabled, so as to experience the intent of service learning.

Descriptions about expected students’ growth in professions

After learning the knowledge about constitution of English picture books and how to apply English picture books to teaching, the students practice the same in the physical teaching activities, and will experience the substantial benefits derived from the application of teaching books to the English education. Meanwhile, the students may learn better teaching models and more diversified teaching activity designs by sharing experience with various groups in the process of the courses.

Anticipated benefits to be gained the service recipient

Particularly, before the students are assigned to various units to provide services, they will need to take 8-week training courses. The course planning will also verify the need of service recipients within the 8 weeks to ensure that the service recipients may receive the optimal courses and services.

Rating criteria

(Please include the way to assess service programs.)

Community teaching service: 30% for the teaching results, 10% for production of related English picture books and materials.

Course integration and presentation of service learning result at the end of semester: 5% for written report, 10% for brief.

20% for interim test/final exam, 15% for online test.

10% for others: attendance/absence, learning attitude, level of participation in discussion and sharing of experience on websites
